Critical Update: Why You Must Act Before May 1st
The Australian Government has confirmed two major shifts that kick in on May 1st, 2026. If you are sitting on the fence, it is vital you understand how these affect your pocket.
1. The “Mid-Year” Factor Drop
Usually, the Solar Rebate (STC) only drops once a year on January 1st. However, under the new 2026 rules, the “Deeming Period” (the multiplier that determines your discount) will step down again in May.
Right Now (Jan – April 30): You receive the maximum rebate possible for 2026 (STC Factor ~8.4).
From May 1st: The factor drops to ~6.8. That is roughly a 19% reduction in the number of certificates you receive, meaning you pay more upfront for the same hardware.
2. The New “Large Battery” Tax
This is the big one. If you are planning a large home backup system, like twin batteries or a large off-grid setup, you must move fast.
From May 1st, the government is introducing “Tapering” for systems over 14kWh.
0 – 14 kWh: You get 100% of the rebate.
14 – 28 kWh: The rebate drops to 60% for the extra capacity.
28+ kWh: The rebate plummets to just 15%.
In plain English: If you want a large system to run your air-con overnight, booking before April 30 is the only way to avoid being penalized by these new size limits.

Our tool uses the official Federal Government “Deeming Period” tables for 2026–2030. It specifically accounts for the unique “May 1st Split” and the “Size Tapering” rules, as well as the specific Postcode Zone ratings for your location.
No, you don’t need the battery on your wall by then. You simply need to have your quote signed and application lodged within the current window. Once approved, your rebate rate is locked in, even if installation happens a few weeks later.
This page calculates the Federal STC Rebate, which applies nationwide (NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA). However, if you live in NSW, you may also be eligible for the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS). When you request a quote, our engineering team will check if you qualify for both—stacking the rebates for maximum savings.
