We had a 16 kWh Solar and battery storage system with 54 panels installed by Andy which was operating successfully for eleven years, due to external damage the system had to be replaced. Acting on advice from Opera Solar Energy (Andy) it was decided to upgrade not only the panels but also the back up battery to a latest technology Sigen 40kwh storage unit. Due to the professional advice from Opera solar Energy and of course Andy's help and support we now have a system which is virtually independent of the grid. Since the date the solar system was professionally installed and commissioned by CEC accredited installer, monitoring records prove we have not had to rely on the grid for power. Andy, my system designer, was exceptionally patient throughout the process, accommodating multiple changes to the system configuration to align with my brand preferences and budget. The installation was scheduled just seven days after accepting the quote and was completed on the agreed date. If you ever want to experience what it’s like to chase a solar installer the way a pilot chases a tailwind, give Opera Solar in Baulkham Hills a try. The owner has mastered the ancient art of not answering calls. I’m convinced he teaches seminars on it. You can ring once, twice, ten times… nothing. Not even a courtesy “busy, call you later.” The man communicates exclusively through WhatsApp like he’s running an underground spy operation, except less responsive. When you do manage to get a reply, prepare yourself for a level of arrogance that could power its own battery system. Simple questions get treated like you’ve interrupted him during the lunar eclipse he’s been preparing for. All I wanted was solar, not a one-man disappearing act. If you enjoy guessing games, WhatsApp blue ticks, and the thrill of wondering whether your installer is still alive, then Opera Solar is perfect. Otherwise, I’d look elsewhere… preferably somewhere that owns a phone and knows how to use it.

I highly recommend Opera Solar Energy to anyone. The team, lead by Andy is very efficient. Andy came out and design and quoted the system I needed. Then arrange the installation date ASAP. The team of installers came out and they were very informative explaining the installation process. The installer had an eye for detail so that the system conduit was not an eyesore. The whole process took a week to have the 8Kw system with battery installed. I am so happy with the solar system. Also, after a bad storm, there was an issue with the battery. It only took one call to Andy, and his team were able to fix it within an hour. For efficient, quality and workmanship I will recommend Opera Solar Energy, to anyone.

Opera Solar Energy led by Andy did a great analysis of what I needed in solar batteries for my home. Andy's quote was $3.8k and $6.4k below the other quotes that I received. As I live in a Strata I needed to get approval, which was forthcoming but took a little time. Andy then arranged for the installation which was carried out in less than one day. The installation team were very professional in the installation and did a great job. I monitored the app that was provided, and it gives me a great deal of information. My previous 31-day electricity costs were $180, this time with the battery in for only half the period my costs were down to $70. All in all, I am very happy with my decision to engage Opera Solar Energy to install my new battery system and very pleased with the results.

It was a great experience working with Andy right from the quote to installation. He explained everything in detail, gave me multiple quotes and explained the pros and cons of each. After order confirmation, his installers were at my place the very next week. Installation started at 7am and by 1pm everything was done and they had left. Through the app of my inverter I can see that I have been generating solar right from get go. I got the Trina Solar Panels with Sungrow inverter. The generation is better than expected so far. Ok, should I go with the long or the short story? 🙂 At the start of the year, I realized I needed to change one of our biggest bills—power. We typically rack up about 23-27 kWh of usage daily, running computers, servers, the kitchen, TV, and PS5. I knew I had to cut down on our costs, with the average bill being between $900 and $1000. I started with another company, but found they were overselling something I didn’t need—micro inverters. Enter Andy, the golden child. From the get-go, he was punctual, kind, understanding, and knew exactly what we wanted to achieve. As an electrician myself (though sadly lacking the qualifications to design and install the system), Andy was able to step in and provide much-needed guidance. With an installation of 36 panels providing just over 17 kW of power, coupled with a GoodWe 15 kW hybrid inverter and battery, the savings started rolling in. Andy was also able to provide a contact to upgrade our old asbestos switchboard, going from dual-phase 6mm to 3-phase 16mm for a reasonable price. Our installer, Chris, was professional, punctual, and a great installer. He was able to install (with an extra hand) all the railing, cabling, mount a 50kg inverter, mount 36 panels, and perform the relevant switchboard modifications—all within the day. Using high-quality switchgear, correctly installing conduits, saddles, labeling, and going over shutdown procedures (very important: never just unplug your DC PV strings unless you know what you're doing). The battery system keeps our hard-earned solar stored for the afternoon, lasting until about 2 am, and is also able to power our house during a blackout with ease. Since we went with a modular system, we can always upgrade and add capacity down the track for a more affordable solution. So if you have any concerns, fear not—Andy will do the right thing by you, and by extension, so will Opera Solar. Things to consider: your output will be greatly affected by things like shade, winter, and clouds. The key is to overproduce—the larger the system, the more you can capture. But, of course, the price goes up accordingly. Consider when all your usage occurs. If it's during the sunny part of the day, a standard system would be great. But if, like me, nearly 60% of your usage happens in the afternoon while the sun sets and the moon comes up, then definitely look into a battery system to accommodate your solar.
